The following table contains studies on many popular standards found in several books on jazz guitar and jazz improvisation. It is aimed at helping students and fellow teachers to find an appropriate exercise on comping, soloing, phrasing etc. over some of the most popular standard jazz changes. Please note that generally speaking in the books only the harmonic progression is presented due to limitations set by copyright. Many compositions of the jazzrepertoire have been (sometimes very humorously) disguised in these books by inventive pseudonyms. Respect and royalties should be paid where they are due. Locating the owner of the original copyrights in order to get permission to use them is (as many people that have tried will confirm) very often an enterprise ranging between very tedious and impossible. (Some companies don't even know they own them.) Most songpublishers of the original songs are also charging high royalty fees, which makes using the original title and melody unaffordable to many a bookpublisher. Since the real value of any jazzstandard composition lies in it's individual interpretation using a pseudonym or contrafact has become standard practice. This of course can make it very difficult for the uninitiated to locate a standard. "Fall Foliage" (of which Jerry Bergonzi enjoys plenty in Boston) may be easily recognized as "Autumn Leaves". Of course "Brontosaurus Walk" is "Giant Steps" and "Two plus two" equals Miles Davis' "Four". Exposing "Herman'n You" as "Woody'n You" takes a good sense of humor and some more experience. This list is by no means an index to finding all resources but simply a work in progress. If you have any additions, corrections or comments please share them with me. recordings of these tunes. The study of good solos and hearing
interesting
interpretations should always compliment your work on standards.
